Irene is upon the eastern coast..big and deadly .
I went through several hurricanes while living in Florida. I lived in the middle of the state giving me a false sense of security. The hurricanes reached me with it's arms of 9o miles an hour winds.
The last hurricane I experienced; it torn down huge trees in my backyard. Power lines dangerously down. Roof torn off. It looked like a war zone. No electricity for over a week. It was most terrifying.
Lessons I learned:
Take care of the basics. If you are in the pathway ..leave now. You do not want to experience this type of violence.
If you are staying make sure you have:
1.Water
2. Batteries for lights and a radio(that will become your only contact at times with the world).
3. Food. Your appetite will decrease or increase because of the stress. Have a manual can opened and cans of food. Bread, peanut butter and dried cereal and milk.
4. I had a battery generator that gave me enough energy for a small fan..this was Florida and very hot during the day. Better yet to have a generator. 7 days without electricity is very long time to be cut off from normal life.
5. Fill your car with gas before the storm.. The lines were huge the day before storm and afterwards when one could drive on the roads. Then the gas stations ran out of gasoline.
6. Most of all have DVDs, books to read and music to listen to.
7. My cell phone went totally out. Eventually the line phone became available.
8. Take care of your animals. Food and a safe place for them.
9. My bathroom became my hang out place with flashlight, radio and cats on my lap. During 90 miles winds.
10. Tape your windows. Remove all flyable objects from your yard. Fill your bath tub with water to flush the toilet. I had two baths. One for water and the other bath as my safe place
At one point I was on the floor praying to God for his protection...Charlie the hurricane was outside knocking on my walls with a violence I had never experience.
I personally read my Bible, listen to my tapes and the soothing Christian music to calm my stress. God will never leave you.
Most of all stay in touch with your loved ones. If you are not in the pathway of the storm make contact with them..let them know you care and support them in their time of need. Who knows someday you may be in the pathway of a severe storm of life.
These are serious times in our world with the threat of violence in these last days. Love our Father and he will protect you. Mock him and he will shake your world; this is called tough love perhaps to save your soul.
I pray for you in the pathway that you will trust in God and do the leg work to protect yourself and your loved one.
Isaiah 41:13 For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
