'My Life in France' A Few Thoughts

I have just completed Julia's book 'My Life in France.' It was such joy to let my mind flow with her life with Paul and cooking. She was such a part of my young married life that I felt I was sharing my life with her life. What a great and natural human being. She was not intimidated by life this 6'2" woman. She and Paul were such a great team together...they were like one soul. What a gift. I could not put the book down. I felt such joy to read about the food discussions and the travelling in Paris and other places.

When I was pregnant with my first child my husband a Lt. in the Army received orders to be transferred to France. I was too ill to go with him due to my pregnancy. Ever since that time I wondered how my life might had been different if I had lived in Paris for a few years. Now vicariously through Julia's book I was able to possible feel what it was like living in Paris with a strong interest in food. The closes I could experience the food was my favorite restaurant in New York City the French Shack. In the 80's I dined alone for the last time at the French Shack with an excellent meal and it was still a great experience.

In the book on page 409 she spoke of "... being the childless ones with no offspring to lean upon...we shall take care of ourselves." This had special meaning for me because I now have no offspring. I am strong and will take care of myself with God's help...he will arrange for a loving person (persons) to be with me on that final day.

This book was too powerful to be combined with a blogger story. This book needs to be a movie offering all the experiences, the beautiful foods and the outstanding chefs this women encountered on her journey. Especially this great love story with Paul and food. Most of all how she changed the world's view regarding food.

Just a few thoughts I wanted to share.
